07/24/2019 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 17U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Ricky is an athletic SS/RHP that shows high baseball IQ. At SS, Ricky shows a +1st step with active and smooth footwork working through the ball. He fields the ball out front with a clean exchange as he creates momentum towards his target. His throws have carry with good accuracy around the infield. At the plate, Ricky gets going with a small load getting his foot down on time. He rotates against a firm front side with a compact swing getting on plane with the pitch. He shows a solid line drive approach working the ball up the middle. On the bump, Ricky shows a 2-pitch mix with a FB/CB. His mechanics are solid with small and clean actions. He gets downhill with a controlled landing, rotating to his target. Ricky shows the ability to be a two-way player at the next level with time to improve even more.

05/19/2019 - College PREP - Redwood City (San Francisco/San Jose), CA Ricky is a strong RHP/SS prospect who will graduate in 2020. On the mound, Ricky gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and extends through his release, staying inline towards the plate. Ricky shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 80mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 67-71mph with 11-5 break. Fork ball sits from 65-68mph with good movement. In the field, Ricky shows efficient footwork and attacks the ball aggressively. He gets into a square position and fields the ball with a firm glove. He makes a clean exchange and keeps his throws accurate to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes his stride on time. He takes a level swing with decent bat speed, leading to consistent line drives. Overall, Ricky is a solid prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
