06/20/2015 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Ricky continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate is where he has improved the most through a squared setup with balance. Swing path is level with good barrel accuracy with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. He is strong and has strength in his swing. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he keeps hands inside the ball, to utilize all fields. At the event, he was 5 for 14 with 2 2B. At 1B, he is a big target and receives the ball well. He makes the routine plays with defensive grade improving as he improves footwork around the bag and continues to increase foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. Ricky is an awesome kid that is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

12/07/2014 - College PREP - McCook (Chicago), IL Ricky is a big, solid 1B/RHP that will graduate in 2016. At 1B, defensive grade are slightly above average, displaying smooth / actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands / feet work together through a low approach. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he works to play through balls more and increases foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup and tracks the ball well. Hands are loose and works through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields and gets stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to utilize his lower level more efficiently. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 75-79 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with downward sink. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength, throw more strikes, and develops better off speed stuff. With 2 years to further develop, Ricky has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
