Official Scouting Report

  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

09/28/2011 - Under Armour Fall Classic - 2011 Ridge is tall and thick left-handed pitcher and first baseman. On defense he has an accurate arm to second base when turning double plays and makes all the routine plays. With some work on his agility Ridge can improve his footwork around the bag and enable him to get into a better fielding position. At the plate he is balanced and extends well through the ball creating some pull side power and will continue to improve his power as he learns to let the ball travel deeper in the hitting zone allowing him to utilize the other side of the field. On the mound, Ridge has a strong look and gets to a good balance point, and has a loose arm that keeps him around the plate. To improve his delivery Ridge needs to keep his front side closed so he can stop himself from flying open too early. Ridge showed the ability to become a solid left-handed pitcher at the next level.

07/26/2011 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Ridge is a lean, athletic LHP / 1st baseman who will graduate in 2012. On the mound, Ridge has a loose arm action, a controlled balance point, and smooth separation. He repeats his delivery, keeps his shoulders level, and he has good direction toward home. Ridge is a strike thrower with all of his pitches and he makes good use of his lower 1/2. More glove side lead and developing a CH will help improve mound effectiveness. At 1st base, Ridge has soft / sure hands, playable feet, and decent range. He plays hard, fields in an athletic position, and he exchange is clean. Ridge has a long / loose arm action and he throws with average strength and good accuracy to his target. Defensive grades can get better if Ridge can field further out in front of his body and avoid winding up when throwing. Offensively, Ridge has a square / athletic set-up, a short stride, and quick hands. He has fast bat speed, decent barrel accuracy, and some pop in his bat. Offensive numbers can spike if Ridge can level off his swing and use more lower 1/2.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
