Official Scouting Report

06/15/2018 - USA Baseball 17U Championships Riggs continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.23 runner. In the OF, he takes proper routes/angles in tracking down balls. He shows good pre-pitch actions and utilizes his speed to cover a lot of ground. Hands/feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. He will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone as he connects with strength. The ball jumps off of his barrel as he crushes it with power showing best to the pull side. Mental makeup is outstanding as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Riggs.

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Riggs continues to show a promising future on the diamond. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. In the OF, he takes proper routes/angles in tracking down balls. He has the versatility to play all 3 OF spots effectively. At the plate, he shows a crouched setup. He stands in with a solid/strong base and has fluid rhythm to load. Barrel delivery is short/quick with aggression as he connects through a line drive approach. On the mound, FB jumps out of his hand and shows with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He slows arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. With 2 1/2 years to further develop, Riggs has a ton of potential with time and room to progress his game.

11/12/2017 - College PREP - Midland, TX Riggs is a thick, athletic OF who has a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth / clean actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate with on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate he displays solid hitting / power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel, displaying gap-to-gap pop. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 3 years to further develop, Riggs has a lot of potential and will get looks from collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
