07/22/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Riley continues to show steady progress in his baseball abilities. At 1B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He works to square ball up and makes the routine plays. He displays proper footwork around the bag and he is a quality receiver. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

06/20/2018 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series (Ages 12-14) Riley is a talented LHP/1B that shows a lot of improvement from past events. He is a very engaged player and enjoyed being on the field, was polite and showed a high baseball IQ. Riley's 60 time has improved from a 9.45 to a 9.22 since past events. In the field, Riley shows efficient feet and covers ground to make plays along with good bag awareness at 1B. He shows an athletic fielding position while staying in front of ground balls and picking balls in the dirt well. He shows good hands as he presents his glove out front and makes clean exchanges into a loose arm action (high 3/4 arm slot). Riley can improve defensively by working on backhand picks and aligning his body correctly to throws. Throws are accurate as he uses his body's momentum at his release to throw the ball on a line. Riley shows improvement with his raw velocity from past events, increasing from 63mph to 64mph, and will see more velocity with natural growth. At the plate, Riley shows an athletic set up with an on-time stride and a good load. He keeps a good center balance and a lower half that stays through throughout his swing. His swing path is direct as he makes consistent contact through a line drive type approach, spraying the ball to all fields. In the OF, Riley shows good arm action and will develop into a good outfielder. On the mound, Riley shows great mechanics with a repeatable delivery and throws three pitches (FB, KN, CH) from a high 3/4 arm slot. He stays balanced in his delivery, keeps his eyes on his target and shows good tempo. At the event, Riley threw 2 innings throwing 67% strikes with 1 strike out, no hits, no walks and no runs allowed. Riley can improve on the mound by developing more off-speed command along with band work and throwing progression to develop more velocity. Riley shows some feel for pitching with fair poise and composed mound emotions. He was aggressive at times trying to get ahead in counts and had the ability to put hitters away. Riley shows the ability to progress as a finesse type pitcher. Riley showed great intangibles at the event by asking questions, showing a good aptitude for the game, working hard, making adjustments and being a team player.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
