On the mound, Riley has good mechanics, a still head, and he competes in the zone. Offensively, Riley has a tall/athletic stance, he strides toward the pitcher, and he keeps a still head. 01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City
Riley is a coachable 2021 2-way prospect that worked hard all weekend. In the OF, Riley starts in an athletic position and works aggressive to the ball. He understands situational alignment and hits the cutoff man. He needs to continue to be on time with his prep step, work behind the ball, and create momentum in his lower half when throwing. During game play, Riley was aggressive on the bases and had a great dirt ball read. At the plate, Riley starts in a closed stance, he has good pitch recognition, and shows a middle approach. He needs to continue to load his hands back into the drive position, attack the inside part of the ball, and create backside drive with his lower half. On the bump, Riley shows confidence in his fastball and attacks the strike zone. He gathers over the rubber, but needs to separate on time, and loosen his arm action. Working north to south in his delivery will allow him to work over the front side. Riley is eager to learn and we hope to see his progress in the future.
11/09/2017 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City (Ages 14-18)
Riley is a coachable and hard-working athlete who shows his love for the game when he takes the field. He has a willingness to learn and can make adjustments quickly. In the OF, he takes good angles and hustles to track fly-balls hit to his right and left. He is aggressive to come and get GB's hit in front of him. Arm works loosely as he fires accurate throws into his target. Gaining more ground through the ball (crow-hop) while getting on a long toss program (arm strength) will both help him to get more into his throws. As a hitter, Caine displays a closed stance with centered balance. He has fluid rhythm to load with active hands. He swings against a firm front side and works to engage his lower 1/2. Increased bat speed along with added physical strength will help to produce more power off of his bat. Only a 2021 grad, Riley still has a ton of time to develop his skills to get to where he wants to be.
07/07/2017 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14)
Riley continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. He utilizes his quick feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and communicates well. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he learns to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. At the plate, hitting grades have improved through a balanced setup. Hands work through a level path and he displays quick hands. Barrel accuracy is a plus with power showing best to the pull side. Mental makeup is a plus as he is an outstanding young man and is willing to make adjustments to be the best player he can be.
01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at Historic Dodgertown
Riley is a hard working player with good instincts on the bases. In the OF, Riley has active prep pitch movement, works behind the ball, and gets into a strong throwing position. In the INF, Riley works to present an early / low glove, work behind the ball, and follow his throws across the diamond. Working on his agility drills will increase lateral movements on the field. Following the long toss / throwing program will help him increase arm strength. At the plate, Riley loads his hands back, has good barrel accuracy, and sprays the ball to all fields. Getting the knob into the drive position, and attacking the inside part of the ball will increase his ability to hit line drives. Continuing to get his top hand to the ball will also help get extension through. Riley worked hard at camp and continued to make adjustments each day.
