04/30/2017 - College PREP - Fairfield (Sacramento), CA Riley is a well-built right-handed pitching prospect who has good upside and graduates in 2018. On the mound, Riley has an easy motion with balanced, on-time mechanics. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a loose arm action. He picks up his target early and stays square with a controlled landing. Riley has good arm side movement on his fastball at 76-80 MPH. He controls his late breaking curveball at 67-70 MPH. Riley's changeup is deceptive with run mimicking his fastball. Overall, Riley has a solid approach on the mound and potential to get even better.

02/12/2017 - College PREP - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Riley is a lean, athletic two-way prospect who is currently slightly more advanced as an outfielder. He shows impressive defensive abilities with the range to run down fly balls and the arm strength to cut down bae runners trying to advance. His fluid actions and active feet, along with a quick first step give him extensive range in the outfield. He works behind the ball and plays through to gain momentum to his target and unleash his very strong, accurate arm to throw runners out. At the plate, he has a square, balanced setup with a smooth swing that allows him to get the barrel of the bat to the ball consistently. He has a line drive approach, working directly to the ball with a high, extended finish to spray base hits to all fields. On the bump, this right hander works in line to the plate with clean mechanics and a repeatable delivery that allows him to control the strike zone. He features an upper 70's sinking fastball, a sharp 11-5 curve and a changeup to keep hitters off balance. Staying deliberate in his delivery will keep everything in sync and allow his stuff to play up with better velocity and movement. Riley is a prospect we definitely want to keep an eye on moving forward.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
