Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

07/27/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Riley is a hardworking RHP/OF prospect who has a solid build. On the mound, Riley pitches with good tempo and repeats his delivery. He has on-time mechanics with good rhythm throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He has a clean arm action and works to pitch downhill. Riley lands closed to home plate with the proper stride length. He gets good leg drive and rotates with his core as he finishes towards his target. Riley has tail movement on his fastball at 75-80 MPH. His curveball has good depth with tight spin and his changeup is deceptive. In the field, Riley plays with effective footwork and covers good ground. He stays behind the baseball and fields the ball in a stiff position with deep hands. Riley has a clean exchange leading into a loose arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He plays with good momentum through the baseball showing consistently online throws. Offensively, Riley has a tall, open setup with his weight in the back his stance. He has a load with an open stride as he partially uses his lower half. Riley maintains a quiet head and works hard through his ABs. He has a long swing path and is developing bat speed. He is a contact type hitter who looks to put the ball in play. Overall, Riley is a good teammate with a versatile skill set giving him a bright future on the diamond.

03/04/2018 - College PREP - Plainview (Lubbock), TX Riley is a tall, solid RHP/OF who has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 73-75 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a feel for pitch with sinking action. Slider resembles breaking ball but is harder. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. In the OF, he displays smooth / clean actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate he shows a closed setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive approach. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. With 3 years to further develop, Riley has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
