01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Riley is an athletic SS/RHP who proved to be a coachable player, with a willingness to make quick adjustments on both sides of the ball. Defensively, his overall play was smooth and under control from start to finish. Footwork was efficient, as he worked around balls well with low hips and his weight on the balls of his feet. Hands were soft and sure, as he displayed a proficiency in picking balls in the dirt with ease. Offensively, he worked the middle of the field often thru a crouched setup. Rhythm and timing were both plusses, as he loaded his hands on time, took a quick stride and kept his hands inside the baseball with a direct swing. Finding better balance at the plate, by keeping his head still throughout his swing, will benefit his power at the plate. Also a pitcher, mechanically he showed a clean and repeatable delivery, as he came to a strong balance point, kept his direction working to the catcher, tilted his shoulders and fired to the plate. He featured 2 pitches from a high 3/4 arm angle, including a mid to high 60's fastball that had late tailing action, along with an 11-5 breaking ball which occasionally touched 60 mph. Overall, Riley is a very skilled young player, who with continued hard work and a will to make quick adjustments, will do great things on the diamond.
