Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/CPosition Projection

09/22/2019 - College PREP - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI Riley is a lean, athletic RHP/C who will graduate in 2021. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed in the 2.38 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. He shows a squared setup and sticks ball in zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls out front. At the plate he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing middle of field well through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, he shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 70 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball sits from 62-63 mph with 11/5 break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch with sinking action. Building more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in building more stock on the mound. With 2 years to further develop, Riley has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
