01/13/2023 - 2023 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament Riley continues to show as a prospect with improvements his baseball abilities at the Pre-Season All American. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Pop times showed in the 2.18 with accuracy / carry (86 mph velocity) on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting / power potential is now outstanding through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel and stays inside the ball utilizing all fields with gap-gap-pop. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

08/15/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Gillette, WY Riley continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and he is a prospect on the diamond. He did show behind the plate for the first time at the event. Pop times showed in the 2.28 range with accuracy / carry (85 mph velocity) on his throws. He shows a squared setup and presents a soft mitt out front. He needs to utilize his body more through the blocking process. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact through a line drive approach. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 76 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sink. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

09/16/2020 - Pathway AZ Underclass - 16U Riley continues show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 2B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 70-72 mph. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

05/18/2020 - All-In Membership - Gillette, WY Riley is a young, 2nd baseman who will graduate in 2024. Defensively, Riley has active feet, he moves well to the glove side, and he fields squarely. He has clean hands, plays through well, and throws with a quick release across the diamond. If Riley can field further out in front and add arm strength with accuracy, abilities in the INF will get better. At the plate, Riley has an open stance, a level swing, and he attacks aggressively. He swings on plane, and he rotates his lower body through. If Riley can loosen his grip, add bat speed, and sharpen barrel accuracy, hitting will spike.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
