07/01/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Chico, CA Riley is a 3B/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. In the field, he fields the ball out in front of his body and makes a clean exchange. He shows the ability to throw from multiple arm slots and keeps his throws accurate and on-line (81 mph velocity) to his target. He moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground with range improving as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He drives through well with his lower half and drives the ball to all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 73-76 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball is a quality pitch, displaying 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Overall, Riley is a solid prospect who will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

12/27/2018 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Riley continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 80 mph. Fastball shows good tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a feel for pitch with arm side run. Off speed stuff show potential as being quality pitches at the next level. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters, working to get ahead. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. At 3B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

12/02/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Sacramento, CA Riley is a RHP/3B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. On the mound, Riley gathers over the rubber and works with a compact motion. He shows a four pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 77mph with tailing action. Curveball sits from 59-62mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 63-67mph. Slider sits from 62-65mph. Riley can improve as a pitcher by loosening his arm action. In the field, Riley shows efficient footwork and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a quick exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate to his target. Increasing his lateral range can help Riley improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a crouched stance and works to barrel up the baseball. Riley can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. With four more years to develop, Riley has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

11/08/2018 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Riley is a lean, athletic RHP/3B who has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work loose / free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 74-78 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with downward break. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. With 4 years to further develop, Riley has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
