He makes the routine plays and flashes a clean exchange, working to keep his throws accurate to his target. Fielding the ball out in front of his body can help Riley improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a short stride. He works to barrel up the baseball and drives up the middle. Riley can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. Overall, Riley is a developing prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field.

03/04/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Indianapolis, IN Riley is an athletic and talented 2020 2-way player. At SS, Riley has a good prep step and works hard to every ball. He throws across the diamond from a high 3/4 arm slot and keeps his throws online. At the plate, Riley starts in a squared stance and loads his hands back. He sprays the ball to all fields and keeps a middle approach. On the bump, Riley stays squared toward his target and keeps his eyes on his target. Continuing to maintain balance throughout the delivery will allow him to be more consistent throwing downhill. Riley will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

11/09/2017 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) Riley is a lean SS/RHP who will graduate in 2020. At SS, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he takes good first steps in attacking the baseball. Glove action is soft / clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through a compact swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 58-63 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 3 years to further develop, Riley has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
