05/20/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Billings, MT River continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.21 runner. At SS, defensive abilities are now well above average as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, hitting / power potential are now outstanding through a squared setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and works through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. With 2 years to further develop, River has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

07/22/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) River is a coachable SS/RHP prospect who continued to work hard on his skills during his time at the National World Series at Pirate City. In the field, River shows efficient footwork and is very agile ranging to the ball. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He gains momentum well on his throws and keeps them consistent with good carry across the diamond. River can improve defensively by quickening his exchange to throw. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting into his load and hits from a firm front side in his lower half. He takes a direct swing with decent bat speed which leads to hard contact and gap to gap pop. River can improve as a hitter by increasing his bat speed. On the mound, River keeps his eyes on target as he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works inline towards the plate and has a controlled landing. His fastball tops out at 71mph. River can improve as a pitcher by finishing with his chest over his front knee. With four more years to develop, River has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

08/13/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Gillette, WY River is a tall, athletic SS/RHP. Defensively at SS, he hustles laterally and tries to get into a square position when fielding GB's. He plays the hops well and tries to play through the ball towards his target. On the hill, this RHP gathers over the rubber with a 3-pitch mix. He tucks his glove as he delivers from a 3/4 slot and has a strong command for all of his pitches. With the stick, River shows an athletic setup with smooth rhythm to load. He swings on a short path fast through the zone and drives the ball with power to all parts of the field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Quicker footwork
2. Work around the GB
3. Clean exchange to throw
Pitching
1. Stronger frontside
2. Lower 1/2 drive off rubber
3. Finish
Offense

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
