Official Scouting Report

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament RJ is a big strong player in this years class (2018). A 1B, RJ shows efficient footwork and gets into an athletic fielding position, fielding the ball out in front of his body. He gains momentum well on his throws and keeps them on-line to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and gets into his load well. He works to barrel up the baseball and makes solid contact to his pull side. RJ is a solid prospect who has upside on the diamond.

06/10/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National South RJ continues to show a promising bright future on the diamond. Offensively, this RHH has improved his hitting / power potential as he shows a quiet setup with simple actions. Hands are quick as he fires the barrel directly through the zone (86 mph exit velocity) on a level path. He squares the ball up consistently with gap-to-gap pop. Defensively at 1B, he shows active prep with fluid actions. He works around the GB and through it as he gains ground toward his target. Footwork around the bag is solid and he is a quality receiver. Exchange is clean with strong throws. Backhand is smooth with a quick release.

06/04/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Medford (Boston), MA RJ continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying outstanding hitting abilities with excellent power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (88 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. He has strength in his swing and shows a plus feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. He gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy / carry on his throws.

12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 RJ is a 2018 1B/RHP prospect with a huge, projectable frame and the leadership instincts necessary to play at the next level. His raw power is this right hander's best tool as he uses his strength and a good understanding of his approach to pick out and drive his pitch. He shows active feet in the field and moves with impressive agility for his frame. He shows an accurate arm on throws around the infield and has a quick release to make him a good double play partner. Presenting his hands out front to field will allow him to dictate hops and keep more balls in front. On the mound, he stays tall throughout his delivery with a strong lower half to work downhill and keep the ball down in the zone. His arm action is clean and he keeps his mechanics intact to show control to both sides of the plate. At the dish, his setup is quiet and his head stays still to track the ball and have a good idea of the zone. He uses his lower half well to generate bat speed and shows spray tendencies to use all fields to get base hits. RJ is an exciting prospect who we expect to take the next step during his senior season.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
