Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/1BPosition Projection

12/27/2009 - Christmas Camp and Tournament #2 Rob is a young, 2-way player, with a tall, lean body. He plays both RHP and 1B, and showed improvement at 1B during his time at Pirate City. Defensively, Rob is an athletic fielder that makes the routine plays. His arm works well and given his size, has the ability to further mature into a complete First Baseman. Rob will need to work on speed and agility as this young, 2012 grad grows. On the mound, Rob hides the ball well and pitches to contact. He stays closed in his delivery and does a nice job holding runners on base. With added velocity and further development of his CB, Rob has potential to improve on the hill. At the plate Rob improved both his hitting and power numbers from 38 to 40. He has okay balance and bat speed and makes a lot of contact. Rob will need to loosen up his swing and incorporate his lower 1/2 for hitting to further improve.

10/04/2009 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Robert has a projectable young body, that should fill out as he matures. On the mound, he has a long arm action, good separation, and decent feel for his FB and CH. Developing more extension and getting out in front with his pitches will create better control and more command, especially with his CB. In the field, Robert was consistent in making the plays and getting the ball over to the bag. As he continues to grow and mature, we can expect his foot speed to improve. Bending at the knees vs. at the waist will help improve his consistency and get the ball across the diamond. Robert has good rhythm at the plate and a level swing. He will continue to improve at the plate by using all fields and improving his pre-pitch approach. As a 2012 graduate, he worked out better on the mound but still has 3+ years for more growth and improvement.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
