12/15/2018 - Texas Regional Pitching/Catching Weekend (Ages 14-18) Robert is a coachable RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Texas Regional Pitching Weekend. On the mound, Robert starts with a simple rock step and gathers with a relaxed knee lift. He works to keep his pitches around the zone and finishes with his chest square to the plate. Robert works with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 72mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 62-64mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 64-68mph with sinking action. Separating his hands earlier can help Robert improve as a pitcher. Overall, Robert is a developing prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the mound.

10/21/2018 - College PREP - Texarkana, TX Robert is a talented RHP/C prospect who has a versatile skill set. On the mound, Robert has good tempo and works quickly. He has balanced, on-time mechanics throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He has a loose, clean arm action and extends through his release. Robert stays square to home plate with a controlled landing. He does a nice job rotating towards his target as he finishes. His changeup is his best off speed pitch with arm side run and sink. Robert has good potential with his curveball showing medium break. Offensively, Robert has an open setup with a centered balance. He has a simple approach with a square stride as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Robert has an on-plane swing path producing square contact. He has a middle of the field approach and is a contact type hitter. Behind the plate, Robert has a solid setup and stays square to the pitcher. He receives the ball with a stiff glove and will stab at it. Robert does a nice job blocking the baseball using his chest well. He has a long arm action and throws from a 3/4 arm slot showing accurate throws to 2B. Overall, Robert is a well-rounded prospect who can take his skills to the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
