11/05/2009 - West Coast Select Training - 2009 Robert is a young, 2014 graduate that shows as a two-way player as a catcher plus at 1B with a tall, athletic body displaying projection as he continues to physically matures. Foot speed is well below average as he must get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active but needs to work in line with his target showing proper direction, currently work around plate. Transfer / exchange are efficient showing pop time range of 2.57-2.60 through average arm strength with accuracy on his throws. He needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength lowering pop times. Receiving skills are average with near average blocking skills with both tools needing further development to be quality tools at the next level. At 1B, defensive skills are average displaying a low approach in fielding the baseball. He needs to be more aggressive in coming to get, playing through the ball with his feet and hands. At the plate, De La Montaigne has average abilities with slightly above average power through a balanced approach. Hands are quick, working inside the ball, utilizing all fields as he displays a solid feel for the barrel. Power numbers will increase as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. With 4 years to further develop, Robert has abilities with time and room to improve.
