Official Scouting Report

  • C/1BPosition Projection

08/23/2020 - All-In Membership - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Robert is an athletic/talented 2-way prospect who can swing it. Offensively, he stands in with an open setup and centered balance. He has fluid rhythm to load working back into a strong launch position. Hands are quick whipping the barrel with + bat speed and connecting with power (exit velocity = 95 mph). He squares the ball up creating hard contact and sprays it from gap-to-gap. Behind the dish, he sits in with athletic actions and flexion tracking pitches into a soft mitt. He is quick laterally and centers pitches in the dirt off of his chest. Throws to 2B are on the bag with pop times at 1.93. Runners will not want to test his arm. At 1B, he shows active prep and is aggressive to come and get the GB. He works into an athletic fielding position, makes the plays with soft hands and gathers well. He has quick footwork and moves well around the 1B bag with athleticism. Whittaker is a skilled 2-way prospect who has the skills that will play at a very high level.

06/03/2018 - College PREP - Folsom (Sacramento), CA Robert is a lean catcher graduating in 2021. In the field, Robert shows quick feet that allow him to drop to his knees and get to his feet quickly, along with giving him agile range to make difficult plays. He shows an athletic fielding position and presents his hands out front as he sticks pitches and shows glove awareness. Robert makes clean exchanges into a short arm action (3/4 arm slot) and displays a quick release (2.05-2.20 pop times). Robert can improve throwing accuracy and velocity by implementing a throwing program to his training. At the plate, Robert shows pop and utilizes a spray type approach. He displays an open stance with a square stride and a good back side hand load, fast bat speed through the zone and extension after contact. Robert can improve offensively by staying balanced in his swing and by developing a more direct swing path to the baseball. Robert is a solid player that can play at the next level with more development to his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
