01/20/2020 - National Tryout Plus - Omaha, NE Rocco is a hard working 2-way player (1B/RHP) who continues to make strides in his game. With the bat, this. righty remains balanced and waits for a pitch he likes. Swing is compact to and through the zone as he connects and hits the ball where it's pitched, spraying it to all parts of the field. Continuing to create more extension through contact while engaging his full lower 1/2 will allow for increased pop off of the barrel. On the mound, he works to a controlled balance point and drives downhill. He repeats his delivery well and throws strikes. FB still sits low 70's as he works to keep it down in the zone. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape while changeup is thrown with FB arm speed. Working to get more lower 1/2 drive off of the rubber will help to get even more into his FB. Rocco has a solid all-around skill-set with still time to progress to get to where he wants to be.

08/04/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Rocco continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. On the mound, he has a good overall delivery, a good arm action, and he rotates his hips through to his target. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 72 mph. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break but slows arm speed, tipping pitch to hitters. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. He has strong/centered balance with fluid rhythm to load. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At 1B, feet are active as he shows proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers ground.

11/17/2016 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Rocco is a lean, athletic OF who will graduate in 2023. In the OF, he reads balls well off the bat and takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He communicates well and will go get the baseball with range improving as he increases foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a direct / level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At the event, he was 1 for 4. Mental makeup is a plus as he displays a great attitude, is very coachable, and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 6 years to further develop, Rocco has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
