09/18/2016 - College PREP - Knoxville, TN Roland is a tall, solid pitcher who has the unique ability to throw from both sides. With his size (6'4, 210) and powerful bat, he projects as a solid college 1B as well. On the mound, he works through a strong balance point and is in line / on time through a high 3/4 arm slot. From the right side, fastball showed a range of 78-79 mph with arm side run. From the left, 70-73 mph with arm side run. Breaking balls displays 11/5 and 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup from both sides with arm side run. Getting on a long toss program and building more arm strength will aid in further development on the mound from both sides. As a hitter, the ball explodes off his bat and he came in with a well above average exit velocity off the tee at 91 mph. He has quick hands and can work gap to gap. He is balanced with good rhythm and timing to his approach. For being a big and strong guy, his bat path remains short, and he also gets his lower half through. Roland's versatility, size, and athleticism makes him an intriguing prospect for the next level and one who should certainly garner plenty of attention.
