Official Scouting Report

  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

03/08/2020 - College PREP - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Roman continues to show improvements in his baseball tools. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying solid hitting potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work to and through a shorts direct swing path, creating extension. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. At 3B, feet are active but needs to attack balls more and play through with his body. Glove action is clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 70 mph. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at Historic Dodgertown Roman is a hard working RHP/3B that displayed a great deal of confidence throughout the week. As a 3B, Roman has an active prep step and good mechanics fielding the ball. Following through on his throws across the diamond and working on mobility drills will increase his overall ability to play the position. As a Hitter, Roman has an athletic stance, uses his lower half, and makes hard contact to his pull side. If he continues to get his hands into the drive position, get his top hand to the ball, and getting extension through the ball, he will increase his consistency as a hitter. On the mound, Roman has a high 3/4 arm slot, stays balanced over the rubber, and is consistent around the zone. Using his lower half, and driving off the rubber will increase velocity. Roman continues to improve with experience and we look forward to see his progress over the season.

12/10/2016 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 12-14) Roman is a strong, young player who worked hard on his skills during the Accelerated Training Weekend. At the plate, he shows to be aggressive and takes good, strong hacks through the zone. Roman can improve as a hitter by using the entire field, working to hit the ball where it is pitched.

10/16/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Roman is a 3B/RHP who still has lots of time to improve. At 3B, he fields the ball with a clean exchange to throw. He plays through the ball as he make accurate throws to his target. On the hill, this righty gathers over the rubber and delivers from a hi 3/4 arm slot. He works his FB with strikes as he mixes in his CH that will keep hitters off balance. At the plate, Roman tracks the ball well into the hitting zone. He swings a level bat path through the zone as he sprays pitches from gap to gap. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Soft hands
2. Quick exchange to throw
3. Quick footwork
Pitching
1. Work in line
2. Finish strong
3. Develop CH
Offense
1. Balanced setup
2. Develop a load
3. Bat speed

09/26/2015 - Pitching & Catching Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 12-14) Roman displayed a gathered balance position and separates his hands on-time in his delivery. His arm action is clean on his arm circle and will benefit from extending through his release point more fully to his target. His landing foot is square and controlled; Roman could utilize more of a leg drive and lengthen his stride toward the catcher to generate more power in his delivery. Roman does rotate through properly toward his target on his finish and will benefit from finishing with his chest over his front knee which will lead to more life and action on his pitches and help create a downhill plane. Roman's best attribute on the mound is his ability to consistently pound the strike zone and shows some promise for a young ballplayer on the mound.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
