Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

06/13/2015 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Burchell continues to show an upward trend of growth - 6.82 sixty - from event to event with Baseball Factory. Defensively at SS, he worked his feet to make plays with decent range and body control. He promoted his hands in front in drill work and threw with a quick/short release. Offensively, he starts open in his setup and gets square to launch with activated hands. He is simple with his approach and has feel for contact with some rhythm. He is aggressive on the base paths and works & plays hard. On the hill, he threw his FB from 76-79 with sink, spun a CB from 64-66, a SL from 67-68, and a CH from 62-65. He competed well, but has a tendency to drift through his balance point, leading to a rushed delivery. He made adjustments to become more consistent and got greater arm extension out over the front side to pound the zone. In all - Burchell continues to show gains and works hard day in and day out.

12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Ron showed consistency on both sides of the baseball in his most recent Factory outing. Offensively, he showed coordination with his hands and hips to get the barrel to contact. Everything works well together, but he needs to focus on driving and exploding to hit with authority. At short, he made plays and threw with a quick arm. Adding fluidity/rhythm to make plays, using his legs to throw and lengthening his arm action will improve defensive skill. On the bump, he mixed his FB and CB for strikes with a good tempo and rhythm to deliver. Driving more with his lower half will help to boost velo and add effectiveness. In all - Ron projects best in the middle infield, where his feet move swiftly - 7.1 sixty.

09/28/2014 - College PREP - Conway (Little Rock), AR Ron is a lean SS that will graduate in 2016. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 7.25 60 time. Feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate with carry but needs to work to get rid of the baseball quicker to improve arm grade. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows good barrel accuracy. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. With 2 years to further develop, Ron has abilities with time and room to continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
