06/24/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Roy continues to show progress in his baseball abilities. At 2B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork in attacking balls. He works to square ground balls up but needs to play through more with his body. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

05/21/2017 - College PREP - Redwood City (San Francisco/San Jose), CA Roy is a hardworking 2B prospect who has a projectable build and graduates in 2018. In the field, Roy has a good first step and moves well in each direction laterally. He gets around the baseball and fields it in a square position. He looks especially smooth on double play feeds. Roy throws from a 3/4 arm slot and his throws are accurate across the diamond. As a right-handed hitter, Roy has a tall stance with his weight in the front of his stance. He tracks the ball well and has good pitch selection. Roy engages his hips in his swing and pivots off his back foot. He has the ability to spray the ball to all fields. Overall, Roy has a good approach to the game and well-rounded skill set with good upside.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Roy displays a good blend of strength and athleticism in a compact package and looks the part at second base. He just finds ways to make plays in the field, proving himself to be a vacuum out there, the hallmark of a good middle infielder. He shows a feel for the game and understanding of different situations with a high baseball IQ. He uses his athleticism to get to ground balls hit his way and has firm hands to work to keep everything in front, while using his athleticism to turn double plays. At the dish, he shows barrel feel with a direct path to the ball as his bat gets on plane quickly. His solid swing leads to consistent, hard contact and he shows the ability to hit line drives gap to gap and use all fields effectively. On the bump, he shows off a clean, repeatable delivery that has deception and good rhythm. He is an aggressive strike thrower who features a fastball into the mid 70's and a slider with 9-3 break from a low 3/4 arm angle. Getting more extension on his release will lead to increased velocity and later break on his pitches, making him more difficult to hit. Roy is an intriguing prospect we look forward to following as he continues to progress.

09/04/2016 - College PREP - San Francisco, CA Roy is a small, athletic second base prospect. He has natural hitting instincts at the plate with a short swing and good contact ability. He has a sound approach at the plate and is able to recognize pitches early out of the pitcher's hand. He stays short to the ball and shows some pop pull side that will increase as he grows. At second, this 2018 prospect shows nice range with good lateral agility. He has a consistent, steady glove to make plays and he makes on line throws to his target. Fielding low and out front is the final step to becoming a great defensive second baseman. Roy is an intriguing prospect who we look forward to continue watching to grow.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
