Official Scouting Report

  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Roy showed consistent ability on all sides of the ball at the Under Armour Baseball Factory Pre-Season All America Tournament. Offensively, he had a good setup with balance and made sound contact after getting his hands activated to hit. At 3B, he made the routine plats and got his glove down to field on-time. He was accurate with double play feeds and with added agility will improve his range. On the mound, he threw his FB with tail, spun an 11/5 CB from 61-63, and showed feel for a sinking splitter at 64-65. He kept his eyes on his target, competed each pitch with a good pace and was not afraid to throw to contact. All in all - Perez should have a sound senior season as he wraps up his high school career in preparation of next level play.

09/07/2014 - College PREP - San Francisco, CA Roy continues to develop his skills. On the mound, he works through repeatable mechanics and smooth tempo. He has good glove-side lead and drives off in-line toward the plate. FB shows arm-side run and will get in on the RHH. More lower 1/2 drive off of the rubber will result in increased velocity. At 1B, Roy shows good bag awareness and moves around it well. He is sure handed and can pick balls out of the dirt. With the bat, he shows fluid rhythm working back as he waits for his pitch. He remains balanced throughout his entire swing and creates extension through contact. Perez is a hard worker who should make an impact both on the mound as well as with the bat.

06/21/2014 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Perez continues to show as an RHP/1B with solid abilities at both spots and has improved his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most improving hitting and power grades through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and make consistent hard contact through a level swing path and works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. At the event, he was 3 for 7 with 2 2B. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver, displaying clean hands. On the mound, Fastball showed a range of 80-84 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball and splitter show as quality pitches that will get outs at the next level. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

12/08/2013 - College PREP - Sacramento, CA Roy is a RHP who has a big/solid frame (6'1"/210lbs). On the bump, he delivers a 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot. FB shows some sink and tops out at 78 mph. Breaking ball is thrown with FB arm-speed and shows 12/6 shape. He gets good glove-side lead and drives off the rubber, working downhill off the mound. Finishing out over his front side will help to get extension and improve effectiveness. As a hitter, Perez shows a tall stance and quick load. He will turn on the ball on the inner half and gets the barrel through the zone. More backside lower 1/2 drive will help to increase pop off of his barrel. With Roy's frame and 'pitchability' he should have success this upcoming season.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
