06/29/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National South Russell continues to show a promising future on the diamond. At 1B, he has plus lateral range, working from the ground-up with smooth actions. Transfer is quick as he fires strong throws zipping across the diamond. At the plate - he has strong/centered balance with fluid rhythm to load. He takes an absolute hack - crushing the ball to the deep parts of the park. Russell has the tools that will play at a high level and make an immediate impact.

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Russell (6'3"/200) is a projectable 2-way player who continues to show well. On the mound, this righty maintains fluid rhythm and repeats his delivery well. He is around the zone with all 3-pitches, challenging hitters to swing the bat. FB has good movement as he works it to both sides of the plate. Closer has 10/4 shape with solid 'sweeping' action. Changeup has good run as is used as an effective 'out' pitch. At 1B - Russell has active prep footwork moving well on the balls of his feet. He can glove the ball with soft/sure hands. As a hitter - this righty has a ton of power. He stands in well with centered balance and rhythm in his hands. He centers the ball up - spraying the entire field. Bunch possesses the tools that will make an impact on the diamond.

07/22/2015 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 16U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Russell showed very well during his time at the UASW 16U Tournament. He has worked hard and molded himself into a solid/well-rounded player. On the mound, this tall righty has sound mechanics and a long/loose arm. FB now cracks the mitt at 83 mph while showing sink. He drives off the rubber and works downhill toward the plate. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with late action, complimenting his FB well. He paints the corners and hits his spots well. With the bat, Bunch has a balanced setup with fluid rhythm in his hands. He squares the ball up consistently, creating solid contact and driving the ball to all parts of the field. He engages his lower 1/2 well and finishes with extension through contact. At 1B, he shows quick footwork with plus lateral range. He is sure handed and can pick it with a soft mitt. A 6'3"/205 2-way player - Russell has a ton of upside and will make things happen in many facets of the game.

01/25/2015 - College PREP - Jackson, MS Bunch showed as a RHP/1B at the event and has improved his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 81 mph. Fastball showed a range of 78-81 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late break and shows as a quality pitch when he stays on top. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for but throws it too hard. Command / control are solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches, locating to both sides of the plate. At 1B, he shows proper footwork around the bat and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / clean but needs to be presented more out front to improve defensive grade. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength / leverage in his swing with plus barrel accuracy as he balls explodes off the bat when centered and works to stay inside the ball, displaying gap to gap pop. With 2 years to further develop, Russell has a promising future in the game of baseball as a solid two-way player.

07/30/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Russell showed his determination and hard working ethic during his time in Pirate City. With the bat, he stands in well with good rhythm working back into a strong loaded position. He connects and creates hard contact driving the ball to the gaps. He puts the ball in play consistently as he went an impressive 8 for 12 with 7 singles and 1 double. At 1B, he shows good bag awareness and moves well to inaccurate throws. He fields the ball cleanly and can pick throws out of the dirt. On the mound, Russell gathers well in a controlled balance point. He pounds the zone and throws strikes with all 3 pitches. He varies his looks well and keeps base-runners guessing. Russell is a skilled 2-way player who has a bright future in the game.

01/26/2014 - College PREP - Jackson, MS Russell is a freshman 1B/RHP with a great frame - 6'2/195 lbs. Offensively, he demonstrated good separation and flashed a direct barrel with a level plane. He was consistent with contact and showed some pop. Defensively, he had a good tempo with his approach and made all the plays. His exchange was clean and he was sure handed all around. On the bump, he threw three pitches with raw mechanics and ability. He has life in his arm and with fundamental focus will begin pitching with more effectiveness and velo. All in all - Bunch projects well as he has years left to develop and fine tune his ability for high quality high school play.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
