10/15/2008 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic - 2008 Carter was 82-86 with his fastball, and 72-76 with his breaking ball. Did a good job of keeping the ball down in the zone, and showed some feel to move the ball around as well. His balance was good also, and his arm worked well from a high three quarters angle. Can work to soften up his front side, and to keep his front side in longer - especially on off speed pitches. In general, can be more aggressive and attack hitters more often - his stuff is good enough, needs to avoid tendency to over think and nibble.

07/19/2008 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Ryan Carter is tall and athletic on the mound. He shows a strong arm with velocities in the mid to upper 80's. He has a great CB and a feel for his CH. His delivery is balanced and his arm action is loose and easy. Ryan needs to work on commanding his off speed pitches a little more which will come with practice. He also needs to get his glove side more involved which might help increase his torque and power. Ryan has the size to pitch at the next level and now only needs some fine tuning.

06/18/2008 - ACR-E - Maryland - 3 Ryan (RHP) is consistently throwing 86-89 mph every time we see him. Has a loose and live arm too go along with strong athletic 6'1" frame. Good glove side lead along with lower half explosion lead to explosive pitches. Slider showed short quick, late 11/5 break. CB was same as SL but had a loop in it. Kept arm speed the same on FB and SL. Would like to see him stay tall throughout. At times, drifts forward before separation which makes arm drag. Gets rotational with lead leg which makes him fly open. Long toss with CH will help develop that pitch more since it's little too hard. At the plate, was square with excellent bat speed and good extension. Swing gets long and around since he arm-bars. Better utilization of lower half will help become complete hitter.

01/11/2008 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2008 Catrer showed similar to what we have seen. Delivery is solid--uses the lower half well and his direction is good. Touched 89 again here and pitched at 86. Breaking ball was a bit more 3/4 this time out. Looking forward to watching him grow and improve over the next two springs.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
