Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

06/28/2009 - Team One West 2009 Ryan has continued to show well as we continue to see him. He shows promise as a dual position player, showing very well on the mound, and having good upside as a hitter. As a pitcher he displays a fastball in the low to mid 80's, which has some arm side run. He uses his pitches well, mixing in his curveball, and his plus change-up to keep hitters off balance. Ryan was very effective and aggressive pitching in to hitters, and he maintained very good tempo, challenging hitters with consistency. As a position player, Ryan showed toughness playing tough shots, and wearing them off the chest. He has nice, soft hands and good body control at third base. His arm plays very well, as he throws downhill, getting good carry. An area of improvement for Ryan is his footwork and agility in all directions. As a hitter, he shows really good bat speed, and he has the potential to hit the long ball to his pull side. Overall, Ryan showed really well, perhaps showing that he currently has more polish as a pitcher.

01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Ryan continues to show as an outstanding two way player at 3B and on the mound. He projects well at both positions and should get a chance to do both at the next level. Hitting abilities and grade has improved, now showing well above average. He shows strength in his swing and utilizes his lower half well through the swing displaying outstanding power to all fields. He was 2 for 4 with a 2B at the event. On the mound, Albert continues to show a big up side on the mound. He topped out at 88 mph with a comfort zone of 86 mph. Breaking ball and changeup are above average and show potential as quality pitches at the next level. He struck out 3 of the 4 hitters he faced. Ryan has a tremendous future in the game that could go beyond his college years.

06/29/2008 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Ryan is a two way player on the mound and at 3B. He has a strong looking body with lots of athletic actions. In the infield, he shows near above average tools. Glove action is soft, sure, and presents well out front. Arm strength shows life, carry, and accuracy across the diamond. At the plate, Ryan displays plus bat speed and shows above average power, mostly to the pull side. He has a ton of potential at the plate if some mechanical flaws are corrected in his setup and approach, currently no load and has an uphill swing path. On the mound, Ryan continues to show solid arm strength and has a solid average breaking ball displaying a 12/6 downward action. Change up is average and needs more development. Arm action is loose, easy, and works well out front. Ryan is young 2010 graduate with a lot of potential. He will catch the eyes of the college coaches over the next two years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
