07/29/2013 - Under Armour Southwest Championships, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Ryan is a lean OF/RHP that will graduate in 2013. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 7.19 60 time. He utilizes his quick feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind, playing through well with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate with on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, Barreras continues to shine through an athletic setup and displays outstanding hitting abilities. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed to and through the baseball, creating extension. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 4 for 11 with 2 RBI. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 76-78 mph with slight arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable. Ryan has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.
