06/22/2012 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2
This week in Omaha Ryan displayed active footwork in the infield and that he can work around the ball well with a clean exchange on double plays. His defensive abilities should continue to develop as he continues to get more reps off the bat so he can become more efficient with his fist step. At the plate he strong balance and quick hands that allow him to keep level path to contact, but needs to work on staying square throughout his swing. On the mound he has a short arm action and goof balance that allows him to pound the zone on both sides of the plate. His tools on the mound should continue to improve as he learns to keep his front shoulder and head in line to his target.
03/18/2012 - College PREP - Plainview (Lubbock), TX
Ryan is a tall and lanky two-way player that will graduate in 2013. At the plate, he shows good hand separation, good balance and makes good use of his lower half. He shows an on-plane swing path, is on time with his front foot and makes contact to all fields. He gets a bit long with his swing at times causing inconsistent contact on the barrel. Defensively, he shows good glove side range, he stays square to the ball and he shows good touch on the double play feeds. A few areas to continue to work on are being aggressive to the ball, work on a clean release to throw and work on lateral quickness. On the mound, he shows good command of all pitches, he has consistent mechanics, and he keeps his shoulders level to his target. He needs to continue to build arm strength, use his lower half better and finish his pitches with a flat back. Overall strength and speed are two things for Ryan to work on to improve in all areas of his game.
