03/12/2017 - College PREP - Voorhees (Philadelphia), NJ Ryan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved, now showing well above average through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work to and through an aggressive swing path, creating extension. He works to stay inside the ball and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. Behind the plate, feet are active as he gains ground and works through a clean / transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.05. Throws are accurate with on line carry. Hands are soft as he lets the ball travel and tracks well, sticking in the zone. He uses his body well through the blocking process and is a wall behind the plate. Ryan will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

09/13/2014 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 14-18) Commuter Ryan is a well balanced hitter with the ability to hit the ball with power to the gaps. He displays the ability to use the entire body during the swing with a clean hand path to the baseball, and the ability to use the lower half throughout the swing. Ryan shows good rhythm in the load and swing with excellent barrel accuracy, and quick bat speed. He needs to continue to work on keeping his front side on the baseball during the swing, allowing him to hit the baseball to the opposite field with authority.

08/14/2014 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Ryan is a young, lean catcher that will graduate in 2018. Feet are active as he works in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.22-2.39 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and shortens arm path. Receiving / blocking skills are well above average and show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup and an aggressive approach. Hands are loose and work through a direct / level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power numbers will increase as he learns to load and use his lower half more. With 4 years to further develop, Ryan has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
