Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/CPosition Projection

11/06/2011 - College PREP - Glen Allen (Richmond), VA Ryan showed on the mound at the event but continues to show a huge upside. Command / control has really improved as he locates all his pitches to both sides of the plate. Arm works displaying quick, loose, and easy action. Fastball showed a range of 86-87 mph with late life. Breaking ball has improved now showing as an outstanding pitch while displaying sharp, late 11/5 shape. Slider resembles breaking ball but is thrown harder. He will benefit by developing a changeup to continue to keep hitters off balance. He is a top level prospect who will get a lot of looks from the college coaches.

01/14/2011 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2011 Daiss continues to impress each time we see him. He showed well both behind the plate and on the mound at the Pre-Season All-America, though we think his best potential as of now is behind the plate. Defensively, he displayed quick feet, athletic actions and soft / sure hands. Ryan moves well laterally, keeps the ball in front of his body and has a quick and clean exchange. Daiss has good direction toward his target and he delivers the ball with accuracy and carry to 2nd base. He posted his best pop times to date at 2.00 - 2.06 seconds. On the mound, Ryan has a long / easy arm action, a repeatable delivery and he throws strikes. He keeps his eyes to his target, works ahead of hitters and mixes his pitches well. He topped at 84 mph during the event. At the plate, Ryan has good balance, quick hands, and pop in his bat from the left side. He has good separation, handles the inside pitch well, and puts the ball in play. Ryan is a strong two-way player who will get looks from plenty of college coaches.

05/02/2010 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY Ryan again shows improvement at the Selden workout and projects as a possible 2-way player at the next level. At 3B, Ryan presents his glove well, fields the ball out in front of his body, and has soft hands. He plays through the ball, and has an accurate arm with carry across the diamond. Behind the plate, Ryan improved his blocking and receiving grades both from 48 to 50. He also improved his radar velocity from 87 to 89 MPH. Ryan has a quiet approach, holds a low target, and he blocks the ball athletically. He gains ground well, has a good exchange, and his throws have good carry to 2B. Offensively, Ryan has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He transfers his weight properly, attacks the baseball, and has pop in his bat. Hitting can continue to improve if Ryan can avoid drifting and let the ball travel deeper in the zone.

07/25/2009 - Team One North 2009 Ryan ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.77 runner. Pop times have really improved as he showed a range of 2.07 - 2.18 as he showed a solid transfer with hands and feet working well together through the throwing process. Receiving and blocking skills show as quality tools at the next level. At the plate, Daiss shows solid pull side pop but will use the entire field. He displays a smooth, easy stroke and has a solid feel for the barrel. He was 1 for 4 at the event. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 78-81 mph with a solid average breaking ball. He shows better from the stretch. Currently, he projects best as a catcher for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
