Official Scouting Report

08/11/2008 - College PREP - San Diego, CA Ryan is an athletic dual position player that currently shows best as an infielder. At shortstop, Ryan has good feet and good fielding actions. He works to get around balls well and plays through ground balls on the run. He will improve his range even more so, by implementing some pre-pitch movement in his technique. His arm plays well, with life and carry to his target. At the plate, he shows a good load and approach to the ball. He uses his hips well and stays inside the ball nicely as he uses the whole field. He does have slight tendency to arm bar with his lead arm, cutting down his barrel accuracy. On the mound, Ryan shows a good idea with his balance and direction, but he does tend to fall off to the side in his follow through. He has a decent fastball that does run a bit, but his off-speed pitches are what show best. Overall, he shows above average tools, with dedication to a solid strength program, he may develop into a solid college shortstop in the years to come.

06/19/2008 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - 2008 Davis lowered his 60-yard dash time from 7.78 to 7.51. He topped at 79 again on the mound, and did a good job of attacking the zone. Worked both sides of the plate well with his fastball, thanks to a balanced delivery with good use of the lower half. Needs to gain better control of his off speed pitches, must work to stay closed and stay on top when throwing his breaking ball. At the plate, his swing was short and he hit the ball to all fields. His hands were quick, but he needs to work on getting his stride foot down sooner and on staying back with his lower half. Defensively, he had a knack for the ball and made plays. He can work to quicken his feet and improve his arm strength. Overall, solid all around player with a good feel for the game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
