Official Scouting Report

  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

11/21/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Glendale (Phoenix), AZ Ryan is a SS/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. At SS, Ryan covers ground well and makes the routine plays. Getting into a more athletic fielding position can help Ryan field ground balls more efficiently. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and works to barrel up the baseball. Ryan can produce more consistent contact by working through a more level swing path. On the mound, Ryan shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 69mph. Breaking ball sits at 60mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits at 59mph. Extending through his release more can help Ryan improve his pitch command and velocity. Overall, Ryan is a developing prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

07/09/2019 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Ryan is a coachable 2B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the California Select Training & Competition. In the field, Ryan takes a good first step and shows active footwork. He fields in an square position and makes a clean exchange, keeping his throws accurate with carry through his target. Fielding with soft hands can help Ryan improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance with loose hands. He gets into a small load and takes a level swing, leading to loud contact to his pull side. Ryan can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half more. On the mound, Ryan starts with a simple rock step and stays inline towards the plate. He shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 71mph. Breaking ball sits from 50-55mph with 11-5 break. Being smoother with his hand separation can help Ryan improve as a pitcher. Overall, Ryan is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
