07/05/2019 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Ryan is a hard working and athletic 2024 Catching prospect that plays the game hard. Behind the dish Ryan does a lot of things well. When receiving he starts in an athletic primary and secondary stance. He works behind the ball and catches the low pitch well. He leads with his glove and moves to the ball laterally well when blocking. He has good footwork when throwing but needs to continue to have a clean exchange and create momentum into the ball when getting ready to throw. At the plate, Ryan starts in a relaxed stance, he has a simple load, and gets his front foot down on time. He creates backside drive with his lower half and has a level bat path. He hunts the fastball early and drives the ball gap to gap.

04/07/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Billings, MT Ryan is a young, 2-way player who catches and plays 2nd base. Behind the plate, Ryan has a presentable glove, a good set-up, and quick feet. He blocks and receives well, catches athletically, and has a clean exchange with a long arm action to 2nd base. Pop times were as low as 2.99 seconds. At 2nd base, Ryan has efficient footwork, firm hands, and he centers the ball well. He flashes a good backhand, his exchange is clean, and he throws with momentum from a loose arm action to his target. At the plate, Ryan has an athletic set-up, good balance, and he can work the ball the opposite way. He is a scrappy hitter who finds the barrel and uses his lower 1/2. Overall skills can improve with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
