Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

10/18/2020 - National Evaluation and Tryout - San Antonio, TX Ryan is a 1B/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. At 1B, Ryan makes the routine plays and works to keep his throws accurate to his target. Getting into a more athletic fielding position can help Ryan field ground balls more efficiently. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a square stride. He takes aggressive hacks and uses the entire field well. Ryan can barrel up more baseballs by taking a more level swing path. On the mound, Ryan shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 55mph. Breaking ball sits from 47-54mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 51-53mph with cutting action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Gathering to a balance point over the rubber can help Ryan be more controlled throughout his delivery. With six more years to develop, Ryan has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

08/05/2019 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Pirate City (Ages 12-14) Ryan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At 1B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth actions. Feet are active as he shows proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, hitting/power potential has improved through a squared, athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a solid line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, he shows a long, loose, and live arm. Fastball shows a range of 52-56 mph with slight cutting action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude and good instincts and plays with a lot of energy.

05/12/2019 - Interactive Video Program - San Antonio, TX Ryan is a young, solid, 2-way player who plays 1B and RHP. Defensively, Ryan has a presentable glove, he tracks well, and fields squarely. He makes plays, keeps the ball in front, and has a loose arm with some accuracy to his target. On the mound, Ryan works well to his balance point, he separates on time, and is around the plate with his pitches. Offensively, Ryan is a contact hitter with an open stance. He swings on plane, makes contact, and can spray to all fields. Ryan can improve skills with work on the following.

Defense
1. Footwork
2. Aggressiveness
3. Release
Pitching
1. Balance
2. Lower body
3. Off-speed

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
