12/27/2009 - Under Armour Recruiting Classic 2009 Ryan showed similar skills at the UA Recruiting Classic as he did back in 11/09. He currently projects better on the mound than in the OF. His delivery and arm action grades both improved to 48's and his FB again showed solid A/S run with late life. Ryan has good rhythm and tempo on the mound. All of his pitches are effective, and once settled in, was very effective in game play. If Ryan can further improve his command and get more extension out over his front foot, pitching abilities can further improve. In the OF, Ryan is aggressive and not afraid to lay out for the baseball. He works well to field the ball cleanly and comes up throwing with a loose arm. With a quicker 1st step and more experience Ryan could possibly be a 2-way player at the next level. Offensively, Ryan has good balance and use of his lower 1/2. He has a soft stride and keeps his hands inside the baseball well. He shows signs of having raw power, and with a quicker bat and less upper body rotation, hitting grades could further improve. Ryan went 3 for 8 with 3 BB's during the tournament games so he got on base at a solid clip.

11/01/2009 - College PREP - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Ryan is a good sized, lefty pitcher, with a true Pitcher's build. He has quick arm action, good balance, and works quickly on the mound. His FB was clocked at 80 MPH and is deceivingly fast. Ryan's split finger pitch has good feel, shape, and sink, and could be a good "out" pitch for him. If Ryan can improve his extension, and create more leverage with his body, he could become an effective lefty arm at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
