Official Scouting Report

07/30/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Ryan showed plus running ability - 6.96 sixty - and good defensive skill at the Baseball Factory Pirate City World Series. He made plays with quick feet and good body control. He was soft with the glove and accurate with his arm. Continuing to get more reps will help to increase first step quickness and route efficiency. Offensively, he got the barrel down to the ball and had good presence in the box. He was a line-drive ground-ball type hitter that was always pressuring the defense. Engaging his hands to launch and driving with his lower half will add pop and hit ability. On the mound, he threw 3 pitches with an athletic setup and fast tempo. He has good demeanor on the mound and was willing to learn. Strengthening his arm with a long toss program and staying loaded with his legs to deliver will increase velo and effectiveness. Overall - Ryan is a coachable player that has another year to add strength in preparation for the next level.

04/13/2014 - College PREP - Bartlett (Memphis), TN Harvey continues to work hard on his game. At the plate is where he has improved the most through an athletic setup with balance. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He moves consistent contact and shows a feel for the barrel. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to stay back and transfer weight through his lower half more efficiently. Arm strength has improved with throws displaying carry and accuracy as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. In the OF, he takes a quick first step with good angles displaying range. Hands are soft as he is sure handed and makes the plays. He stays through the ball with throws that show carry into his target.

01/18/2013 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Ryan is a young, lanky OF that will graduate in 2015. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 7.06 60 time. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He needs to work to get behind balls to play through with momentum to his target to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a balanced, open setup with rhythm. Hands work through a level swing path and he makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers continue to improve as he learns to use lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 2 years to further develop, Ryan has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
