Official Scouting Report

  • 4Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

09/03/2023 - National Showcase - San Francisco, CA Ryan is an athletic 6ft 2 / 185 C/RHP in the 2024 class. Behind the plate, he shows a good set-up and quick feet. Keeps his eyes behind the baseball and the ball sticks to his pocket. Has a quick exchange and gains a short 3qtr. Slot. Arm strength is outstanding at 84 velo and 2.00 pp. Feeds are accurate and on-line to the target. On the mound, he has solid mechanics and can repeat well. Gathers over his back leg and pulls his front side in to stayed closed. FB tails at 74-8 and is in the zone. SL has 11-5 shape at 67-7 and keeping his elbow up will give the pitch a tighter spin. His CH has run with FB arm speed at 63-5. At the plate, he shows explosive hands at 90 exit velo and line drive contact to all fields. Balance stays inside his feet and uses hips well. Can lunge forward at times and working to attack the inner half of the baseball should allow him to stay back longer. Overall, Ryan is a must follow in the 2024 class.

03/05/2023 - National Showcase - Sacramento, CA Ryan is a 2024 C/RHP prospect with an athletic frame at 6'2" 185 pounds. Behind the dish, Ryan displays a ton of upside. His feet are quick and he does a great job of getting in a good set-up pre-pitch. He has a quick exchange and release and displays throwing strength to his target. Did a good job of blocking with consistent chest actions. Works hard to have consistent glove actions when blocking/throwing but does have a good pocket awareness. At the plate, he features a squared stance with a short load and stride towards the pitcher. He does a great job keeping his balance centered over his body. He has impressive bat speed and does a great job with his lower half and hips to create explosive movements. Showed some pop to the pull side and made consistent, hard, line-drive contact during his round. Works hard to finish his swing consistently and stay short to the baseball. On the mound, Ryan throws from a 3/4 arm angle. He has a compact motion and does a good job of tucking his glove during his delivery and staying squared to his target, which he picks up early in his motion. Threw strikes with his FB which he ran up to 80 MPH and had some late tail to it. His SL has gradual break and he consistently threw it for strikes. He does a great job with his CH of maintaining a FB arm speed and gets some run on them. Works hard to stay consistent with his stride and balance to the plate. Looking forward to seeing Ryan at future events!

01/14/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Pre-Season Prospects Tournament (HS) Ryan is a C/RHP who will graduate in 2024. Medium frame athletic build with strength present and plenty of physical projection remaining. At C, shows efficient feet with good agility behind the dish. Good direction towards second base with an arm velocity of 79mph and a best pop time of 2.33 seconds. Keeps head still and presents low target for pitchers to throw to. Accurate/on-line throws to second base. On the mound, Ryan works with good tempo and was quick out of the stretch. He showed good rhythm to his delivery while keeping his eyes on mitt. Gathers over rubber, with good balance, and separates on time with a high 3/4 release point. 3 pitch mix with his FB topping out at 74mph and an 11/5 shaped breaking ball with some depth. In live game action, he was able to minimize and allowed 2 runs in 2 innings of work. Right-handed hitter hits from an upright and open stance. Short stride, with level eyes at contact, and hits into a firm front side. Short/direct barrel path who hit line drives to all fields. Reached base 3 times, with an RBI, and a bat exit velocity of 83mph in live game action. With 2 more years to continue his growth and development we expect opportunities for him to play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
