01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Ryan is an impressive athletic & strong built backstop that showed exceptionally well at the UAPSAA Event with Baseball Factory. Defensively, he was flexible to shift and received with sure hands in front. He was clean with his exchange and had short arm action to throw with life. His pops were in the 1.91 - 2.0 range and he has room to continue improving at the next level. At the plate, he is balanced with his approach and has strong feel for his pull side. His hands are quick and there is strength behind the barrel, allowing him to make consistently hard contact. His move to hit is fluid & smooth, and the rhythm boosts consistency. Overall - Ryan is a strong prospect that can do it with the bat and the glove.

09/19/2015 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Ryan is an athletic C/3B that will graduate in 2017 with a promising future on the diamond. Currently, he projects best behind the plate at the next level. At the plate is where he shows best as he is a switch hitter with plus abilities from both sides through an athletic setup and aggressive approach. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path, creating extension. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing, displaying gap to gap power. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a quick transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show in the range of 2.38-2.47 with accuracy and carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At 3B, feet are active as he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands and proper footwork. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks balls more and plays through while presenting hands more out front. With 2 years to further develop, Ryan has the makings of a special type player that will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

09/21/2014 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Ryan is an athletic C/RHP. Behind the dish, he is consistent & quiet with his feet sitting well. He remains flexible while receiving and blocking and is quick to block pitches in the dirt. He has sure hands with proper footwork resulting in his 2.3-2.4 pop time to 2B. Increasing foot speed and quickness in release will allow Ryan to cut down on those times. On the mound, he has a clean arm action that extends through to the plate landing with his chest over his front knee. He has good rhythm, direction and separation. Focusing on his release point and using his legs to drive to the plate will make him more successful. He has the skill-set that will provide future success.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
