05/19/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Poughkeepsie, NY Ryan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground in the MIF. Throws are accurate with carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a tall, open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

09/02/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Troy (Albany), NY Ryan is a two-way prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. As a SS, Ryan fields with a firm glove and makes consistent throws to his target. Ryan can improve as a SS by getting int a more athletic fielding position. As a 1B, Ryan makes the routine plays and keeps his throws accurate to his target. Ryan can improve as a 1B by fielding the ball out in front of his body. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes his stride on time. He hits from a strong front side and drives the ball to all fields. Ryan can improve as a hitter by working a smother load into his swing. Overall, Ryan is a developing prospect who has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

07/17/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Ryan is a lean 2B/SS who will graduate in 2022. In the MIF, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to increase foot quickness and play through balls more. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic / squared setup with rhythm. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact and shows a feel for the barrel through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. With 3 years to further develop, Ryan has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
