Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

11/06/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Nashville, TN Ryan continues show as a prospect with improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, delivery is sound and repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 82 mph. Fastball showed a range of 79-82 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. At 1B, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth/fluid actions. He displays proper foot work around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is sure and presents out front. He utilizes his foot quickness (6.94 60 time) in covering a lot of ground. At the plate, he continues to shine through a tall setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn.

06/20/2022 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (HS) Ryan is a 2024 1B/RHP prospect out of Newburgh, IN. He showed nice upgrades in his overall game at the Omaha National World Series. He is a tall, 2-way player who works hard and understands the game well. On the mound, Ryan has a good mound presence, a simple delivery, and a clean arm circle. He has good direction toward home, his FB touches 79 MPH, and he mixes in his CB well. At 1B, Ryan gets in a good ready position and he plays on the balls of his feet. He fields out in front, makes plays, and gains momentum toward his target to throw. At the plate, Ryan stands in the box with a tall stance, he keeps his hands high, and he hits from a firm front side. He has fast bat speed, makes hard contact, and he hits line drives consistently. Ryan is a great kid who is coachable and is a team player. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for him as he enters his junior year.

05/01/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Ryan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he's improved the most, now displaying outstanding hitting abilities with excellent power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. At 1B, he shows smooth/fluid actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around bag, and he is a quality receiver. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. He moves well laterally and utilizes his foot quickness in covering a lot of ground. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.19 runner. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 74-76 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with running action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

01/30/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Indianapolis, IN Ryan is a tall 1B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2024. In the field, Ryan shows efficient footwork and creates good angles. He fields the ball out in front of his body and has a clean exchange, making accurate/on-line throws to his target. Getting into a lower fielding position can help Ryan field ground balls more efficiently. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth to load and works through a level swing with fast bat speed, driving the ball to his pull side. Ryan can generate more pop off the barrel by engaging his lower half more. On the mound, Ryan gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and keeps his pitches around the zone. Ryan operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 76mph with cutting action. Breaking ball sits from 61-64mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 64-66mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Striding inline toward the plate can help Ryan improve his pitch command. Overall, Ryan is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
