Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

07/17/2012 - College PREP - Carrollton (DFW), TX Masetta continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities, still showing as a LHP/OF that projects best in the OF for the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date at 7.00. In the OF, feet are quick, athletic as he reads balls well off the bat and displays range in tracking down balls. At the plate, hitting grades and power numbers have improved. He shows a balanced, athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the ball jumping off his bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 72-74 mph with sinking action. Changeup is best off speed pitch as he maintains arm speed with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is developed.

10/19/2011 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic - 2011 Ryan is a lanky LHP/1B and runs extremely well (3.93 to first/possible future in the OF). Defensively he has an accurate arm and has great footwork around the bag, but needs to start fielding the ball further out in front of his body. At the plate, Ryan has a square setup with level swing and gets his backside to the hitting zone well. His offense should continue to develop as he learns to create some separation in his load. On the mound, he has good overall mechanics, stays in line to his target, and commands all three of his pitches. Ryan's development on the mound should continue as he learns to get some extension at his release point. With two more years of high school baseball remaining, Ryan has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.

08/10/2011 - Pirate City World Series 2011 - Session 2 Ryan is a young two-way player that will graduate in 2013. As a LHP he shows the ability to throw 3 pitches. He throws his FB in the 73-74 mph range with good command to both sides. His CB shows good depth with 1/7 shape to it. He also features a CH which has good late action to it. He has a repeatable delivery with balance and clean arm action out front. He rushes himself at times and needs to continue to clean up his arm circle in the back. Defensively at 1B he shows good footwork around the bag, gets his hands out front and has a clean exchange to throw. At the plate he shows good rhythm with a level bat path and the ability to hit the ball to all fields. He needs to continue to work on overall strength, agility and a solid long toss program. He is projectable and with hard work will be a player to follow.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
