09/11/2016 - College PREP - Glendale (Milwaukee), WI Ryan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, defensive abilities are solid, showing smooth/athletic actions. He utilizes his foot speed in covering a lot of ground, displaying range. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls, playing through well with momentum to his target. Hands/feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. At the plate, he has improved his hitting/power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. Power numbers will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 68-76 mph with arm side run. He shows a quick tempo and works through a repeatable delivery. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with cutting action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Building more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in developing stock on the mound. Ryan has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

12/06/2015 - College PREP - McCook (Chicago), IL McWilliams stands at 6-foot and 160 pounds, and ran his fastball up to 79 mph from the left side. He got some arm side run on the pitch, and also turned over his mid-to-upper 60s changeup. He showed good feel for his changeup, and kept his low 60s breaking ball down in the zone. His delivery was generally sound and he maintained good balance and control of his body throughout his delivery. He can work to maintain better direction, and to avoid getting closed off on landing. At the plate, he kept a quiet head and was aggressive with his moves to contact. He tended to be a little out of control with his lower half after getting closed off, forcing a route to contact more from the inside than ideal. Much like on the mound, needs to work to maintain his direction in order to keep his hands and arms freed up. In the infield, he moved his feet well and showed the ability to make some throws. He can work to get his hands more out front, and to play through the ball more. Overall, Ryan is quite a bit ahead on the mound where he has a chance for a solid three-pitch mix.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
