12/27/2017 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Ryan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a tremendous future on the diamond. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 85 mph. Fastball shows a range of 81-85 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a plus feel for with arm side run. Control is outstanding as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. At the plate, he continues to show outstanding hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. At the event, he was 6 for 8 with 2 2B. In the OF, he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

10/22/2017 - College PREP - Stillwater (Minneapolis), MN Ryan is a long, strong two-way prospect who gets it done all over the field, showing advanced skills as an outfielder. He can stroke it at the dish with serious barrel feel and pop to all fields. His actions are fluid and smooth as he uses a strong lower half to transfer his weight well and whip the bat through the zone. His level, direct path and bat to ball ability allow him to make tons of hard contact with gap to gap ability and pull side power. He has a quick first step in the outfield with good athleticism to cover a lot of ground and track down long fly balls. He surrounds the ball to field athletically, working through it to throw with online carry to his target to cut down baserunners. On the mound, he pounds the zone with his three-pitch mix including a fastball up to 82mph with arm side run, an 11-5 curveball and a changeup with sink. Getting to a strong balance point over the rubber will help him keep his body in sync and result in more command moving forward. Ryan is an exciting, young prospect with a very high ceiling on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
