12/27/2017 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Ryan continues to show a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he continues to show best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a plus feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. At the event, he was 4 for 9. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.28 range with accuracy on his throws. Feet are aggressive in working in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength. He shows a solid setup and soft glove action, sticking balls in the zone well. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

09/10/2017 - College PREP - La Verne (Los Angeles), CA Ryan is a well-rounded catching prospect who has skill on both sides of the ball. Behind the plate, Ryan has an effective setup and plays the position athletically. He presents a low target and moves with smooth actions. He receives the ball with soft hands and has a clean exchange leading into a short arm action. He has good momentum through his release throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot showing strong, accurate throws down to 2B. As a right-handed hitter, Ryan has a square, athletic stance with a centered balance and firm front side. He has fluid rhythm with a good load and square stride as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Ryan has an on-plane swing path and gets good extension producing hard contact. He is a line drive type hitter who has the ability to drive the ball to the pull side with power. Overall, Ryan has talent offensively and defensively with upside to take his skills to the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
