Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Mossman continues to show as a solid 1B with good size. Defensively, he is aggressive to attack the ball and he has life on his throws. He tends to field deep at times and needs to get his hands out in front and play thru to his target. On the mound, he throws 3 pitches from a high 3/4 arm slot and has good command on all of them. He has good tempo and attacks hitters. Offensively, he has good bat speed and makes solid contact. He needs to create extension thru contact for power to increase.

11/13/2011 - College PREP - Marlborough, MA Ryan showed well both on the mound and at the plate in Boston, MA. He has a short, loose, quick arm on the hill, a controlled balance point, and on-time separation. Ryan works in good rhythm, he keeps his shoulders level, and he has good direction toward home. Ryan has good control and his off-speed pitches show well. More eyes to his target, a longer back arm action, and added arm strength can help mound effectiveness rise. Offensively, Ryan has a square / athletic set-up, a smooth stride, and good balance. He swings in good rhythm, he has very good bat speed, and he is short to the ball. Ryan has good pop in his bat, he can really drive the ball, and he makes good use of his lower 1/2.

08/04/2010 - Pirate City World Series 2010 - Session 1 Mossman continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and threw on the mound for the first time. Arm strength has improved as he displays solid carry and accuracy on his throws. Defensive abilities at 1B also improved as he displayed proper footwork and sure hands around the bag. At the plate is where Ryan has improved the most. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed to and through the baseball at contact. He shows a feel for the barrel, displaying gap to gap power. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 72-76 mph with little run on a slight downhill plane. He projects best at 1B for the next level as he works hard and is very coachable.

06/13/2010 - College PREP - Medford (Boston), MA Ryan is a young, big, and strong 1st baseman that will graduate in 2012. Defensively, Ryan makes plays on balls hit his way, and shows decent hands and footwork. He has a strong arm that is accurate to his target with some life and carry. If Ryan can widen his base and improve his body control, defensive grades will improve. Offensively, Ryan tracks the ball well and has a decent idea in the box. He has okay bat speed, and he hits the ball hard to the pull side. If Ryan can shorten his stroke and not spin off the baseball, hitting grades will improve. Overall, Ryan is a young player that will get better with age.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
