08/16/2014 - Under Armour All-America Game, powered by Baseball Factory Ryan is a physical infielder with a knack for finding the barrel against all levels of pitching. His right-handed stroke generates bat speed and pull-side power, and he tends to rise the occasion. As a defender, Ryan has fluid actions, sure hands and a clean release with plenty of arm across the diamond.

09/21/2013 - 2013 Under Armour Futures Series East - Jupiter, FL Mountcastle stands at 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, with room on his frame to fill out and add strength. He ran 7.08 in the 60 yard dash on a slightly soft track, we didn't get a good home to first time on him at this event. Defensively, he moved his feet well, took good angles to the ball and maintained good body control. His hands and glove action were solid, and his actions were clean as he played through the ball. His arm worked well, and he spun the ball with ease across the infield. Appears to be a solid, capable shortstop with the ability to play 3B as well. At the plate is where he stands out. He showed rhythm to hit and reached a good launch position, hands worked back and move with front foot was simple and repeatable to trigger his swing. He hits from a bit of a crouch, and as a result he has some lift in his swing. Generates excellent bat speed, and did a good job of getting the good part of the barrel to contact in BP. He drove balls easily through the pull side gap and back up the middle. Overall, a talented offensive player with hitting ability and power potential, along with the ability to play SS at a high level.

05/24/2013 - 2013 Under Armour Memorial Day Classic 18U Participant Athletic build, lean with length and room to fill out. Patient approach at the plate, tracks the ball well and makes a full and loose move. Has quick hands and leverage to work with. Fluid actions defensively with arm strength to carry throws across the infield.

06/08/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Southeast Championships 18U Participant Lean athletic frame with room to fill out. Balanced, quiet, comfortable hitting approach, showed good barrel accuracy. Solid defender at 3B with easy arm stroke.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
