04/08/2018 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX Ryan continues to shine on the diamond. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.05 as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft / sure and he sticks balls in the zone. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process and is a wall, keeping all balls in front. At the plate, he shows a squared setup with balance. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop.

04/09/2017 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX Ryan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 6.99. At the plate, he improved his hitting / power potential through a squared / balanced setup. He stays inside the baseball, utilizing all fields, displaying gap to gap pop. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.28 range. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft / sure and he sticks balls in the zone. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process as he is a wall behind the plate. In the MIF, he utilizes his quick feet well in his lateral movements, displaying range. He works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front.

12/27/2016 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Ryan is a strong, athletic catcher who has a promising future behind the plate. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.11. At the plate is where he shows best, through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive approach. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show in the 2.11 range with accuracy. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He displays an athletic setup with soft hands that stick balls in the zone. Athletic abilities are present through the blocking process as he uses his body well and works to get balls in front. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable, makes adjustments and is a solid team player. With 2 years to further develop, Ryan has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
