Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

12/14/2014 - National Tryout - Lewiston, ME Ryan worked out as a LHP/OF in his most recent Baseball Factory outing continuing to improve some of the facets of his game. As an OF, he showed a good prep step with hands that are active and out front. He takes good angles with the ability to track down a lot of balls. At the plate, this lefty squares himself to the plate with a soft stride and load. He gets good extension with his loose hands and barrel accuracy. As a LHP, his velo bumped up to 59 with secondary pitches sitting in the mid to high 50s. He works with good rhythm on the mound and has a good feel for pitching. Ryan is a young player with the ability to develop over the next 5 years.

11/13/2014 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Ryan showed as an LHP/OF during his time at Pirate City. In the OF, he utilizes his feet well in taking proper routes/angles in tracking down balls and displays clean hands. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he works to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target and increases foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he displays a balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, showing a solid middle/away approach. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time and improve barrel accuracy. On the mound, he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 56 mph. Fastball showed a range of 55-56 mph with arm side run. Stock on mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength, develop better off speed stuff and throws more strikes. Mental makeup is a plus as he plays with a lot of energy and is very coachable, working hard to be the best player he can be.

02/17/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Rindge, NH Ryan is a skilled 2-way player as a LHP/OF. On the bump, he throws 2 different pitches from a 3/4 arm slot. FB shows arm side run and ranges from 52-54 mph. He keeps his eyes on the target, works in-line toward the dish and remains compact in his delivery. He fills up the zone and throws strikes. In the OF, Ryan is aggressive and takes a quick first step to get into position. He plays through the ball and delivers accurate throws to his target. At the plate, this lefty gets back into a loaded position with smooth actions. He swings on a level path and hits line drives. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following: Pitching 1. Arm strength 2. Lower 1/2 drive Outfield 1. Get on top of throws 2. GB approach Offense 1. Extension 2. Lower 1/2

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
